It's time to talk about Rob Lowe's autobiographical "Stories I Only Tell My Friends" - written and narrated by the Hollywood heart-throb himself. The book starts with his childhood; from his humble beginnings in Ohio to Malibu, where he ends up hanging around the streets with neighbourhood kids Charlie (Sheen) and Emilio (Estevez) Lowe goes onto recount how he got into movies - and the resultant life of bad-boy showbiz excess - then turns things around, gets married, settles down and reboots his career by starring in the West Wing. Along the way, we get behind-the-scenes insight into the scandals that kept him on the front pages of the supermarket tabloids and the stage whispered anecdotes about his encounters with famous people he meets along the way. I loved this one. A collection of brilliant stories and vivid portraits of famous people "but in real life". Cary Grant and Patrick Swayze were my particular favourites. And of course this is an audiobook read by a world-class actor, so you actually get Rob Lowe's uncanny, hilarious vocal impersonations of Mr Grant and Swayze. That's something you just can't get with a tree-based book! Most people "read" or "narrate" their audiobooks. Rob (note we're on first name terms now) actually "performs" this book - to the extent that you genuinely feel he is taking you into his confidence

Do you have an audiobook that you think Steve and I need to take a listen to? Is there a title that's grabbed you by the wotsits and now you want to tell everyone about it? We're mainly about recommending audiobooks, but if there's something you'd really like us to review on the show because it's either bad, funny or so bad it's funny, please do let us know.
